Species selection and testing their optimal growing conditions
Leader: IETU, Dr. Wojciech Bąba, prof. IETU
The overall objective of the WP1 is selection of a set of plant species - Polish and Norwegian floras - suitable for growing in the green module system. The species should have the following characteristics: (i) be native to local flora, (ii) be resistant to urban environmental stresses conditions, (iii) deliver ecosystem services such as mitigating urban heat island effect (UHI), especially lower surface temperature and increase air humidity. Plant species must have representing different growth forms and functional traits: broad-leaf grass, narrow-leaf grass; sedges, legumes and rosette herbs. The selection of species is basing on similarity of habitat preferences between dry grasslands and extensive green roof habitat.
